There is something unique about a student explaining tech to an older generation; it’s the creation of a bridge between age groups. In our recent workshops, the connection between our u3a members and Sevenoaks School sixth formers was almost instant. What began as Mike’s idea to match students with members has become something truly special, considerably more than the sum of its parts.
Our members brought a wide range of individual phone or tablet puzzles. These included syncing smartphones with tablets, managing global family calendars, and mastering text-flow for Christmas letters. In every case, these wonderful students explained the solutions with great patience.
This rapport was a privilege to observe. Once the tech issues were sorted, conversations often strayed over coffee into chats about IB coursework, travelling, philosophy, cricket, etc.
As we face different challenges with our devices, do consider joining us on one of our future visits. You will be welcome with a smile and a cup of tea or coffee. Email Mike Davies on computing@sevenoaksu3a.org.uk to find out more.
Our hearty thanks go to the staff and students at Sevenoaks School for their excellent hospitality and assistance.
