From the mysteries of the cosmos to the latest breakthroughs in technology and medicine, our Science Discussion Group makes complex topics accessible and fun.
What we do: We explore and discuss recent and past scientific discoveries and explore how science impacts our daily lives.
Who is it for? Anyone with a curious mind! You don’t need a background in science, just a desire to ask questions, learn and contribute to the Group.

We operate by each member picking a topic, undertaking some background investigation and then presenting findings to the group for further discussion. This season we will be addressing Time Travel, Quantum Computing and AI, Evolution of Intelligence, Animal Communication, Printing Technology and many other topics that may emerge from an ever-changing world.
Over the past year, the Science Discussion Group has explored a wide range of topics, both from a historic and from a current perspective. The talks are chosen, researched and presented by the members. As an example, we have looked at the work of Lord Rayleigh and William Ramsay, the History and Development of Telescopes, Water and Sewage Treatment, Health and Wellbeing, and Animals and the World.
In the 2026-27 season we hope to include presentations on Time Travel - Fact and Fiction; Quantum Computing; and an Obscure Scientist.
