When: Monthly on Tuesday afternoons 2:00pm-4:00pm
1st Tuesday
Venue: Otford Methodist Church Hall

We meet in either the Otford Methodist Church Hall or the local area depending on the weather each month. We aim to explore the technical aspects of digital cameras, photo techniques and computer software with some members giving short talks on photo topics that interest them. Nothing is too obscure and debate is welcomed.

We also visit local sites and exhibitions that may interest a budding photographer. Each month we aim to agree a topic with members submitting their efforts for discussion amongst the group. This leads to an internal competition each year with the members voting on their favourite photo. Come and join us, you will be welcomed whatever your level of skill.

Having had a full year with visits come rain or shine to such places as The British Wildlife Centre and Ightham Mote, and talks on topics ranging from ‘developing an eye for a shot’ (photographic) and ‘wildlife photography’,

December brings our annual competition. We have two competitions this year, the first covering the topic ‘Occupations and Pastimes’ which was set at the beginning of 2025 so there has been plenty of time to think about this. The second covers such diverse topics as ‘View Through a Window’, ‘Ripples’ and ‘Machinery’ which have been set as a challenge to group members during the course of the year.

Winners of both competitions are decided by a ‘secret’ ballot and announced at the December meeting. More on the winners next year ……

We are currently drawing up our diary for 2026 when we are pencilling in visits to such places as Tower Bridge and the City of
London, and talks on topics which may
include Portrait Photography and Discovering your Digital Camera - we’ll see.

We are an open group so always happy for u3a members to come along and see what we’re about regardless of their photographic prowess. If you are interested then contact the group leaders and we will
provide you with more information.

At the top  is ’The Fly’ taken by Reg Oakley.
The other two are by Mary Allwood and Dave Irwin respectively and are in response to the subject of ‘Reflections and Architecture’ which was the
competition title set at the beginning of 2024.
