Our Chairman and Vice Chair roles will be up for election.
As our recent Open Afternoon was successful in both bringing in new members and starting new groups the Executive Committee really needs some extra help. Sevenoaks u3a is a charity run by an Executive Committee of Trustees supported by teams of volunteers which enable the groups to function. We would particularly welcome people who can bring communication skills to the team and would be interested in external marketing and publicity or other special projects. However we would also be pleased to have volunteers to help in other areas of administration and finance. You can find out more about being a Trustee from one of us or from the Charity Commission’s website. Alternatively we can put you in touch with one of the teams.
The meeting will be followed by a talk from Janie Ramsay entitled “Another Job Lot”.
Janie set up the first Antiques shop in Tunbridge Wells High Street in the 1970’s and moved to larger premises in the Pantiles in 1980 where she specialised in Georgian and Regency furniture and collectables. She later joined Sotheby’s in New Bond Street, becoming a Director in 1998 and was with the firm when they sold the Duchess of Windsor’s magnificent collection of jewellery. Her talk will include anecdotes and stories from behind the scenes in the antiques trade both from the retail and auction sides. It will include the good, the bad and the very bad sides of the trade that the public don’t get to see.
